Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
