Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a significant and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is unclear and the American officials has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

It said debris fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
