Jurgen Klopp says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.

Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead any other side in England. So that means in case it's my former club...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”

“Being 58, that means I might decide in a few years, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews a week.

“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears to illustrate.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”

Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision with his brother this past summer.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
