🔗 Share this article New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning. Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion. “What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.” It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition. “Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.” New York police released security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims according to reports. The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The perpetrator got away. Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a child. “What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind. “A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.” Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation. Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off. Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while working his way back. “He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.” Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
