It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
